Récemment, plusieurs expositions ont fait connaître l’œuvre de CHRISTIAN DOTREMONT, à l’occasion du 25ème anniversaire de son décès, en 1979. On croyait tout savoir sur « l’inventeur » de COBRA et des LOGOGRAMMES, après les récits biographiques qui lui ont été consacrés. Pour expliquer sa démarche artistique, il est cependant un aspect de sa vie semi-aventureuse qui n’a pas été suffisamment mis en valeur. Il s’agit de ses fréquents voyages dans les pays nordiques, où il allait se ressourcer. Omniprésentes dans ses écrits poétiques et sa correspondance, la glace et la neige sont les éléments qui lui permettent d’assouvir sa quête de l’absolu, son besoin instinctif de liberté. Pour Christian Dotremont, pas de différence entre la page blanche et l’immensité des étendues enneigées : il y inscrit ses textes, à l’écriture spontanée. Une recherche dans son œuvre a permis à Françoise Mortier, directeur artistique de la GPOA et commissaire de l’exposition, de recenser à ce jour une cinquantaine de logogrammes où apparaît le mot NEIGE, dont une vingtaine seront exposés à la GPOA. C’est au cours de son 10ème voyage lapon en 1976 qu’il trace des « LOGONEIGES » et « LOGOGLACES » photographiés par Caroline Ghyselen, qui l’accompagnait. Rarement montrés, ces travaux éphémères, édités à cette occasion par la GPOA en tirage de prestige limité, sont la preuve de la verve intarissable de ce poète de la langue et de l’écriture. L’exposition « Mémoire de neige - Christian Dotremont » constitue le plus bel hommage qui peut-être rendu à l’artiste, qui contre vents et maladies, a consacré sa vie à la recherche d’un style original. Quelques femmes, des rencontres aussi. Ce n'est pas voyager, voir, raconter. Pas besoin d'être loin, d'être frappé par des paysages ou des gestes inouïs, pour découvrir ces mouve­ments lents, infimes qui font et défont les vies, au plus profond. La longue course de Francis Dannemark paraît aux Editions du Castor Astral, rassemblant 25 ans de poèmes, d'aphorismes, de textes qui jalonnent l'existence de leur auteur. « Je me souviens parfois très bien d'un passé qui n'a pas existé. » C'est un peu cela, la rencontre avec une route de 25 ans de textes poétiques : des émotions, des images, des sentiments que l'on a éprouvés un jour, peut-être, des choses que l'on aurait pu vivre ou écrire, même si c'est dans la vie d'un autre qu'elles (n')ont (pas) existé. La longue course, c'est, en treize étapes de 1974 à l'an 2000, une anthologie : les textes ont été sélectionnés, certains ont été rema­niés. Les contacts entre des poèmes de la pre­mière heure et les derniers donnent, évidem­ment, d'autres couleurs à l'ensemble, conçu l'été 2000. Dommage que les photos et des­sins des premières éditions soient absents... Entre 1974 et 1976, Dannemark écrit Heu­res locales. Seghers les publie en 1977. L'au­teur a vingt-deux ans. Ce sont des poèmes, des vrais, dans la lignée de Michaux, d'Eluard, de Prévert. Avec un zeste de « road movie » et des citations toutes crues en anglais qui annoncent une autre ère. Déjà, Antarctique en 76-77, premier opus publié au Castor Astral, révèle d'autres rythmes. Toujours ces phrases anglaises qui flirtent avec notre langue et ouvrent la pers­pective, de petites citations nées d'un quoti­dien qui sortirait d'un film de Wenders. Et la petite musique d'un saxophone insistant. Clous de girafe (1974-1977) et Garden-Party (1979) nous la jouent plutôt à la Prévert, musique des mots, ironie des images. C'est la part fantasque de l'écriture « jeu de lan­gage » qui émaille plus ou moins la produc­tion de Dannemark selon les époques. Dans les années 90, les poèmes renouent avec les rythmes des années 70. Entre les deux, les textes se font plus denses, plus carrés. Somme toute, l'avantage d'une anthologie, c'est de laisser voir en quoi la manière du poète s'est frottée à l'époque, a subi les in­fluences de son temps et de son histoire ou bien les a rejetées. La longue course, c'est Alice dans les villes, pas Aguirre la colère de dieu. L'exotisme n'a pas la part belle ici. Pas de chevauchée sau­vage, pas de flamboiement des couleurs, mais la simplicité d'observation permise à chacun. « Les poètes et les marins pensent à des récits de voyage, mais ils se font ici, dans les avenues que la nuit des villes élar­git. ». Ou encore : « Pourquoi faudrait-il que je voyage ? Le mouvement m'intéresse plus que la distance et je peux très bien ex­pliquer le mot retour. » C'est curieux, à une époque où les théori­ciens rivalisaient pour faire taire la littéra­ture, Dannemark n'en a eu cure et a osé porter haut le flambeau de la poésie. Péri­mètres, textes écrits entre 1977 et 79, abor­de des thèmes qui ont marqué l'époque, l'importance des lieux urbains, de la vie in­térieure aussi. « Une phrase sur du papier : je vis à titre ex­périmental, et j'ai perdu les plans d'un autre territoire. » Les romans sont venus ensuite, ont croisé des publications de textes poétiques, plus confidentielles. Dix romans chez Robert Laffont et au Castor Astral, neuf livres de poèmes. Un conte, La traversée des grandes eaux, a paru chez Cadex. Les histoires que Dannemark raconte n'empêchent pas sa poésie d'exister. Les unes et les autres se font écho, paraît-il. Dannemark nous livre pas mal de textes poétiques inédits, écrits ces cinq dernières année. Comment peut-on être encore poète à l'époque glorieuse des fils de pub et du marketing triomphant ? Métamorphoser la langue, (se) jouer d'elle, faire étinceler mots et images pour qu'ils ré­vèlent l'autre au plus profond. Vraiment. L'échappée des mots offre à ceux qui le désirent des retrouvailles intimes inégalables, des confidences loin du superficiel et du tape-à-l'œil. Comment pourrait-on, sans poésie, survivre à cette époque ? L’esprit de la pièce est celui de la parodie, sans conteste, à l’image du carnaval qui bat son plein à l’extérieur et dont revient Don Juan. Les masques sont donc de rigueur et légitiment les rôles que chacun s’attribue. Encore avez-vous l’avantage d’une légende toute cuite. Mais nous autres aussi, nous avions une légende, car n’est-ce pas humain de s’en forger une dès qu’on se retrouve devant la femme convoitée ? Et la femme se laisserait-elle convoiter hors des brouillards du mensonge ? [Réplique de Théodore, dans le premier acte, p. 21] L’idée du monde comme théâtre semble exploitée en filigrane autant que ridiculisée par les personnages qui tiennent si mal leur rôle. Don Juan, en particulier, ne semble pas à la hauteur de sa légende, bien qu’il séduise l’inaccessible dame des lieux (encore que « séduire » ne soit pas le terme le plus approprié et qu’on se demande qui prend qui dans cette histoire jouée hors scène). Biographical Text A l'occasion de la parution de mon premier livre-album, André Balthazar m'invitait à le rencontrer chez lui à La Louvière. Après vingt ans de fréquentation à distance, tout allait bientôt changer. <br />J'étais anxieux à l'idée de ce rendez-vous. Très touché aussi de l'intérêt que Balthazar semblait porter à mon travail, car il était de ceux dont l'avis m'importait. A cette époque, j'avais une production quantitativement importante, mais je ne montrais plus rien depuis 10 ans. Je m'étais totalement et volontairement isolé des sphères culturelles. La rencontre se passa au mieux, et au moment de nous séparer, j'eus l'impression de quitter un ami de longue date. On se reverra quelques fois durant la doizaine d'années qui suivra, toujours avec bonheur. Mais, probablement par frilosité, un peu par orgueil, et surtout par manque de confiance en moi, je ne lui proposerai pas mes dessins. De son côté, j'imagine qu'il avait d'autres bul à souffler. Pourtant nous allions collaborer plus tard.<br /><br />En 1997, je l'ai entretenu vaguement du projet que nous avions, Claude Bourgeyx et moi, d'éditer les meilleures pages de <em>Nobody's Perfect</em> parues hebdomadairement dans les journaux <em>Le Soir</em> et <em>Sud-Ouest Dimanche</em>. Au cours de notre entrevue, à me grande surprise, André me proposa aussi d'illustrer son texte Linnéaments. J'étais ravi qu'il ait pensé à moi, d'autant qu'initialement il avait l'intention de le soumettre à Pierre Alchinsky (pour me bercer d'illusions, je n'ai jamais cherché à savoir s'il m'avait choisi ou si Alechinsky avait décliné sa proposition). J'acceptai, évidemment. André en bon éditeur, reporta la publication de son propre texte au profit de <em>Nobody's perfect</em> qui était quasi prêt à paraître et qui s'intitula pour l'occasion <em>L'homme est bon, mais le veau est meilleur</em> (titre que j'empruntais à Brecht).<br />Aussitôt après, j'entrepris <em>Linnéaments</em>, ce beau texte maraîcher. La période d'approche fut plutôt longue - presque trois semaines pour trouver le fil -, mais dès que je l'eus trouvé, je réalisai le travail sans discontinuer et dans un bonheur aussi total que possible. Depuis ce premier livre en collaboration, une sordide amitié me lie à Balthazar ; elle a remplacé peu à peu nos liens contractuels. Une fraternité semée d'agréments et de contrariétés comme toutes bonnes relations non objectives. Je n'ai pas encore trouvé, à ce jour, chez d'autres éditeurs, une aussi grande complicité, ni la liberté d'expression nécessaire à ma nature.<br /><div style="text-align:right;">Extrait de <em>Quelques années de mine,</em> Le Daily-Bul,  Yellow Now &amp; 100titres, 2006</div> A regarder l'oeuvre de Roland Breucker, on n'ose pas trop en parler parce qu'elle parle toute seule. Du moins le semble-t-il. A y réfléchir et peut-être mieux voir (on sait que les yeux ne sont pas loin de la tête et de son cervau), le regardeur - dans les accidents de la route, on parle de témoin - trouve des espaces dans lequels il peut mijoter des idées à lui.<br /><br />Ainsi, ouvrant des livres et catalogues (aussi des boites d'archives où de petits dessins furtifs, au crayons abondent), je me surpris à rapprocher cette oeuvre, et peut-être son auteur, de la pomme de terre.<br />Ô, Monsieur Patate, bobine de semoule et de croquette dorée, vous qui savez de quoi la Bintje est capable, dans sa silhouette et dans son silence, si paisible, salut à vous et à vos marionnettes non comestibles.<br /><br />L'auteur souvent noir vêtu, proche de la terre, celle un peu grasse qui connut le charbon ; ses personnages aux rondeurs tubercules immobilisés dans des gestes assis ou suspendus, germinent(*) vers des lumières qui sont peut-être celles d'un ciel en rase-motte. Des danseuses ont des radicelles vers le bas, sous les bras ou ailleurs ; de francs goguenards aux dentitions de fécule rousse, voire de mildiou, ont des torticolis vers le haut, la bouche experte en diagonale, comme celles des mangeurs de frites qui fréquentent les antipodes.<br />On peut aussi y trouver - la terre est inventive et la pomme exubérante - sur des peaux apparemment tendues et fraiches, des turgescences allègres, des enflures de bonnes digestions, des polypes rubiconds, des érections florales... Tout d'abord, parce que le comité de rédaction a décidé tout en se limitant dans l'espace, de renoncer à l'universalité de ses propos tandis que ses membres se promettaient d'être moins présomptueux à l'avenir. Ensuite parce que tous les rédacteurs et dessinateurs vivent et s'ébattent dans cette région qui multiplie ses vallons entre les méandres des deux rivières aux noms significatifs : cette région qui semble depuis quelques décennies abandonnée de l'histoire et plongée dans un marasme économique de plus en plus flagrant; cette région animée par les grandes réjouissances publiques que restent les carnavals et les grèves et où les hommes politiques un peu las errent de vernissage en inauguration de travaux inutiles (ascenseur inachevé ou voies navigables qui se désespèrent de ne point l'être). <br /><br />Sensibles comme nous le sommes, nous éprouvons durablement les sentiments qu'évoquent les deux rivières. <br />Nous connaissons la haine car les journalistes, écrivains, critiques et artistes qui se plaisent à s'épancher dans ce journal se haïssent mutuellement avec entrain et se jalousent vicieusement. <br />Quant à la trouille, nous n'en avons qu'une : c'est qu'un individu mal intentionné ne nous attrait devant les tribunaux pour ironie malveillante (par exemple : Di Rupo, Lafosse, Debauque, de Fays, Ceuterick et tutti quanti). William Cliff est sans contexte un des poètes majeurs de ce temps, découvert par Raymond Queneau qui fut, aux éditions Galliard, l'éditeur de son premier livre : Ecrasez-le. Ont suivi plusieurs volumes de poésie aux mêmes éditions. La Table ronde a ensuite publié La Sainte Famille, premier récit en prose, fruit d'une "résidence" de six mois dans le Cabardès. Et une oeuvre poétique : L'Etat belge. Le pain quotidien se présente comme un journal en dizaines décasyllabiques, qui se déroule de février 2003 à juillet 2005. L'auteur y relate ses humeurs à sa manière à la fois musicale et abrupte, dans un elangue d'autant plus moderne qu'elle se nourrit subtilement du fond poétique le plus universel, de Villon aux grands Rhétoriqueurs, de John Donne à Jean Genet, et qu'elle réussit à subvertir la tradition en lui restituant les pouvoirs et le rythme de la nouveauté. La forme classique - on pourrait dire médiévale - du dizain, loin d'être perçue comme une contrainte, témoigne au contraire d'une liberté d'allure tellement rare chez les poètes d'aujourd'hui qu'il est impossible de ne pas reconnapitre la voix de Cliff, impérieuse et scandée comme aucune autre. Cliff nous parle de la couleur du ciel, de ses colères, d'une lecture, des manies de son voisin, d'une rencontre furtive, de la bêtise des foules, de tous ces événements quotidiens dont nous sommes aussi des témoins.
