« Le mot “surréalisme” ne signifie rien pour moi », déclarait Magritte, alors que son ami Nougé acceptait l’étiquette « pour les commodités de la conversation ». Le surréalisme belge s’est distingué du surréalisme français par un certain nombre d’écarts : mise en cause de l’automatisme, reven-dication d’une musique surréaliste, humour et dérision sont ses marques de fabrique. D’André Souris à Tom Gutt, de Camille Goemans à Achille Chavée, la plupart des forces vives du mouvement sont rassemblées ici en des textes pour la plupart complets (et non des extraits). Y sont associés des auteurs qui n’ont pas nécessairement été surréalistes, mais sont témoins de la fécondité du mouvement, de Christian Dotremont aux ani-mateurs du Daily-Bul

<p><span lang="FR"><strong>Paul Neuhuys</strong> (1897-1984), le principal animateur du groupe et de la revue<span> </span><em>Ça ira</em>, éditeur attentif et persévérant, poète témoin tour à tour optimiste et pessimiste, de son siècle, constatera à la fin de sa vie que « la poésie n’est plus qu’un état violent contre une humanité qui se déshumanise », et s’écriera : « Caressons, caressons, tant qu’il demeure entier, notre globe en danger, notre globe en péril, n’était-ce la lenteur d’un train privilégié... »</span></p>
<p><span lang="FR">La Fondation Ça ira se propose de stimuler et de publier des recherches concernant</span></p>
<ul type="disc">
<li><span lang="FR">le rôle et l’influence du groupe Ça ira dans les années vingt du XXième siècle, et leurs prolongements ;</span></li>
<li><span lang="FR">l’interaction en Belgique entre les foyers d’avant-garde francophones et néerlandophones ;</span></li>
<li><span lang="FR">les activités éditoriales de Ça ira de 1920 à 1984.</span></li>
</ul>
<p><span lang="FR">Elle se propose également de rééditer l’œuvre, quasi introuvable, de Paul Neuhuys, y compris les inédits, ainsi que des ouvrages originaux le concernant, lui et d’autres auteurs édités par Ça ira.</span></p>
<p><span lang="FR">La Fondation publie depuis la fin décembre 1999 un bulletin trimestriel, dont nous publions ici en plusieurs livraisons une bibliographie succincte.</span></p>

Sa poésie ? André Miguel, dans l'essai qu'il lui a consacré, la résume très précisément : "Je ne pense pas que Chavée pourrait faire sienne la conception de l'irresponsabilité du poète. Il n'a pas été tenté, non plus, par la ferveur ésotérique de Breton. Adepte de la spontanéité d'écriture, et se fiant dans une certaine mesure à l'automatisme, Chavée n'a pourtant jamais, dans la pratique, accordé la primauté à l'inconscient. Réactions complémentaires, mouvements dialectiques, décrochages de l'humour, fidélité à l'émotion non moins qu'au mythe personnel, la pensée de Chavée est originale, bien que proche parfois de celle de Breton." . À quoi il ajoute, un peu plus loin : "La cohérence organique de son poème dépend, en quelque sorte, des réactions contradictoires de son émotion et de son inconscient, de son expérience et de l'humour qui introduit la distance". Il faut s'entendre sur ces "mouvements dialectiques" et sur ce "mythe personnel" avant de continuer. C'est Achille Chavée qui donne la définition de ce mythe personnel : il s'agit, en substance, de la combinaison d'éléments puisés dans la réalité extérieure et de l'ancienne réalité intérieure. N'est-ce pas là l'un de ces mouvements dialectiques pour reprendre la formule d'André Miguel ?
